Cable hang-off components
Cable hang-offs support and secure the termination points of subsea cables. They provide support and protection to the cable at the transition points between the wind turbines and the ocean.
Description of Manufacturing Process
Subcomponents are typically made from plate and tubular steel sections that are either welded or bolted together. CNC cutting, drilling, milling and turning may be used to ensure repeatable designs and a proper assembly of the various parts.
Description of Supply Chain
Manufacturers buy stock plates or tubulars which are then cut, machined and assembled. The finished components are purchased by cable installers who are responsible for connecting the array cables to the turbines and substations.
Scottish Opportunity
Relevance to Scottish Supply Chain: High
Several suitable cable accessory suppliers are based in Scotland. Although much of the fabrication is likely to be done in-house, others suppliers could be involved if volume or quality demand is high.
