Drag embedment anchors
Drag embedment anchors dig into the seabed to secure a floating offshore wind turbine in place. They are connected to the floating turbine structure via mooring lines.
Description of Manufacturing Process
CNC cutting is used to make accurate repeatable cuts for steel plates, which are then welded together and painted to make drag embedment anchors
Description of Supply Chain
The floating offshore wind industry is relatively nascent, with large-scale supply chains not yet established. It is expected that anchors will be manufactured at or close to the marshalling and assembly port. The plates are likely to be shipped to the manufacturing location by road. Once manufactured, the anchors will be sent to the installation port to eventually be installed at the offshore wind farm.
Scottish Opportunity
Relevance to Scottish Supply Chain: High
Drag embedment anchors are likely to be manufactured in or close to installation ports. Their manufacturing is therefore very likely to involve local suppliers.
