Dynamic stabiliser components
Various plates are used in floating substructures to control the dynamics of the system.
Description of Manufacturing Process
Components are likely to be cut from plate steel using CNC plasma cutting. The plates are then welded to the substructure. Some components may require further machining for interface surfaces
Description of Supply Chain
The floating offshore wind industry is relatively nascent, with large-scale supply chains not yet established. It is expected that dynamic stabiliser components will be manufactured and welded to the substructure by the floating substructure manufacturer at the assembly port to reduce transport.
Scottish Opportunity
Relevance to Scottish Supply Chain: Medium
Since floating offshore wind supply chain routes are not yet established, Scottish suppliers have the opportunity to position themselves as first movers. Close coordination will be required with substructure designers and manufacturers to meet the complex timescales and location requirements.
