Mooring connection points

The mooring connection point ensures the connection between the mooring line and the floating substructure.

Description of Manufacturing Process
The manufacturing process remains unclear due to uncertainty around floating substructure technology. It may involve machined pad eyes manufactured from forged or cast steel blocks. Other interface components may be forged or cut and welded before being machined to obtain tight surface tolerances.

Description of Supply Chain
The floating offshore wind industry is relatively nascent, with large-scale supply chains not yet established. It is expected that mooring connectors will be supplied by commodity suppliers who currently supply the oil and gas and shipping industries. Alternatively, bespoke components with higher CNC requirements may be used.

Scottish Opportunity
Relevance to Scottish Supply Chain: Medium

The manufacturing process and supply chain route will depend on the design and methodology chosen. Scottish suppliers could work closely with foundation and mooring system designers to understand CNC requirements.
