Mooring line tensioners

Mooring tensioners are used to provide the right tension to secure the floating offshore wind turbine in place and evenly distribute the loads across the different mooring lines.

Description of Manufacturing Process
Typically forged, cast or cut steel parts welded together. Further machining, including precise hole drilling and contouring is required. Precision machining may be required for the locking mechanism, guides, and base interfaces.

Description of Supply Chain
Typically procured from a mooring equipment supplier, such as Acteon, Delmar, First Marine Solutions, First Subsea or Flintstone technology. They generally buy cast components, most often from abroad, which have been CNC finished at the casting facility or nearby. CNC machining is sometimes undertaken at the integration site but this is not typical.

Scottish Opportunity
Relevance to Scottish Supply Chain: Medium

Many mooring equipment suppliers are based in Scotland and the wider UK. If Scottish suppliers have the capability to CNC these large components, then Scottish supply is possible, although displacement of existing overseas suppliers will be required.
