Tower cans
Tower cans are tubular sections that are connected together to create the wind turbine tower. The tower is a tubular steel structure that supports the nacelle.
Description of Manufacturing Process
Large steel sheets are CNC plasma or laser cut to create accurate shapes and bevels ready to be rolled and welded.
Description of Supply Chain
Tower manufacturers purchase large volumes of plate steel. They undertake the cutting, rolling and welding in house.
Scottish Opportunity
Relevance to Scottish Supply Chain: Low
CNC machining is typically undertaken in house by the tower manufacturer, so little opportunity exists for external suppliers to support.
