Transition piece flanges

Bolting flanges are used at the interfaces between the transition piece and the tower at the top end and the monopile or jacket foundation at the bottom end.

Description of Manufacturing Process
Typically made from forged or rolled steel rings. Turning, and sometimes milling, are then used to ensure concentricity and tight surface tolerances. Finally, drilling and boring are used to create precise bolt holes.

Description of Supply Chain
Typically fabricated by the transition piece fabricator (Smulders, Bladt industries) or by specialist large-diameter rolled rings suppliers (Euskal forging, Flanshechenwerk Thal) contracted specifically for such components.

Scottish Opportunity
Relevance to Scottish Supply Chain: Medium

Transition piece fabricators operating in the UK might be interested in additional suppliers for the supply of bolting flanges. Scottish suppliers will however have to compete against established suppliers.
